Update : 06 Apr 2015, 11:09 AM

The Dhaka Central Jail authorities have taken all preparations to execute death row war convicted Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.

Forman Ali, senior jail superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail, told the Dhaka Tribune about the preparations.

“We have completed each and every primary preparations to execute the war convicted Jamaat leader,” he said.

“The jail authorities will decide about Kamaruzzaman’s execution after getting the verdict of the Supreme Court Appellate Division that upheld the death penalty rejecting the review petition of the war convicted jamaat leader.”

He, however, said: “The jail authorities have not got yet the copy of the verdict of the Supreme Court till updating of the report at 5:15pm.”

The Supreme Court upheld the death penalty of condemned war criminal Muhammad Kamaruzzaman for killing 144 villagers at Sohagpur village in Sherpur during the 1971 Liberation War.

The court passed the order rejecting the review petition filed by the Jamaat leader on Monday morning.

The International Crimes Tribunal 2 had sentenced the al-Badr leader to death on May 9, 2013 for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Meanwhile, the family members of war criminal Muhammad Kamaruzzaman have been asked to meet the convicted Jamaat-e-Islami leader in prison by 5pm.

Kamaruzzaman's lawyer Shishir Monir told the Dhaka Tribune that the Dhaka Central Jail authorities asked the family to meet the Jamaat leader urgently.

He is the second war crimes convict who filed a review petition with the top court. Another Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Molla was executed on December 12, 2013.
