At least 16 fishermen have went missing after a fishing trawler, FB Allah-Malik, sank in the estuary of the Meghna near Dhalchar under Monpura upazila in Bhola on Thursday.
The incident occurred at 2pm. However, it came to be known around 6pm.
Over mobile phone Abul Kalam, a wholesaler of fishes at Kutubdia, told the haka Tribune: “FB Allah-Malik left Kutubdia fish landing centers for fishing into the sea with 16 fishermen on Wednesday afternoon. It is believed to have sunk any time after 2pm on Thursday due to a storm.”
Lt Jahangir Alam, operation officer of Bhola Coast Guard South Zone, confirmed the news and said a Coast Guard rescue team had already started for the spot of the capsize in search of the missing fishermen.
