Two minor boys have been killed and another one has sustained injuries in a grenade explosion at Mostapara village adjacent to Savar cantonment on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased are Hridoy, 10, and Shubho, 10, while the injured is Salman, 11, said Savar Model police station OC Abdul Motaleb Mia.
Quoting the locals, he told the Dhaka Tribune: “Shubho found the grenade in an abandoned state at a field adjacent to the shooting spot [Bomka] of Savar cantonment. It went off when the boy tried to put it in his pocket around 5:30pm, leaving Shubho and Hridoy dead on the spot.”
“Injured Salman has been admitted to the hospital.”
Locals said the army members recovered the bodies immediately after the incident. The bodies were not handed over to their family members till filing the report at 7pm.
Dhaka Tribune tried several times to talk to the authorities in the cantonment over the incident. However, no official was available for his comment.
