The government will implement the recommendations of the National Pay and Service Commission (NPSC) after receiving the review of the Secretarial Committee, said Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday.
“We will decide about the execution time of the pay commission’s proposals after the secretarial committee submits its report,” he told journalists at the Secretariat.
Earlier on the day, the minister held a meeting with the newly appointed Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoit-Pierre Laramee at his Secretariat office.
According to sources at the finance ministry, the government will need an additional Tk22,953 crore, which will cause 63.7% increase in expenditures, to implement the proposals of the commission.
Last year, Muhith said the recommendations of the NPSC would be implemented from July 1, 2015.
The government had extended for the second time the tenure of a secretarial committee tasked with reviewing the recommendations of the 8th NPSC.
According to a Cabinet Division circular issued Tuesday, the committee’s tenure has been extended from March 15 to April 15.
Earlier on February 15, the tenure was extended by one month.
NPSC Chairman Mohammad Farashuddin said financing the additional amount would not be a problem, if only 1% revenue growth could be ensured.
