A person has been killed and four others have received burn injuries in a fire that broke out at the factory of Opsonin Pharmaceutical company in Barisal town.
The deceased is Painter Nesar Paddya, 45, son of Abul Paddya of Patuakhali.
Fire rangers said five people were burnt in the fire that broke out at the factory around 2am Monday.
The injured were sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where Nesar died of his injuries.
Factory's Security Guard Jalal said the fire originated from the packaging godown of the factory.
Barisal Fire Service Assistant Director Shawkat Hassan said: “On information, five units from Barisal, Banaripara and Jhalakathi went to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 5:30am.”
He said six units were doing dumping works at the spot when the story was filed at 10:20am.
However, the reason behind the fire and estimated loss could not be ascertained yet.
Kotwali Model police station Sub-Inspector AR Mukul said they have beefed security in the factory area to avoid untoward situations.
Hospital's emergency unit doctor Habibur Rahman said the injured were being treated at the hospital.
Meanwhile, six shops and four houses were gutted in another fire incident at Raiputi under Gouranadi upazila in the early hours of the day.
Gouranadi Fire Service Station Officer Abdul Karim said: “Thirteen people injured while trying to douse the blaze that originated from an electric short circuit.”
An estimated loss of Tk5 crore occurred in the fire at Raiputi.
