A leader of a criminal gang has received bullet injuries in a "gunfight" with police at Balaishpur area under Chandraganj upazila in Lakshmipur.
Din Muhammad Zihad, leader of Zihad Bahini, was admitted to a Lakshmipur hospital.
Lakshmipur district Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Junayed Kawsar said: “Zihad was arrested from North Joypur union on Friday night. Based on his information, police conducted a drive to recover arms from the area early Saturday.”
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Zihad’s cohorts opened fire aiming the police, triggering a gunfight that left Zihad injured with bullet.
Three police constables also sustained injuries during the drive, said the ASP.
They received primary treatment at the nearby hospital.
The police also recovered one LG, and two rounds of bullets from the spot, he said.
Zihad was accused in five cases filed with several police stations in Lakshmipur, added the official.
