Update : 25 Mar 2015, 06:43 AM

Seven shops have been gutted in a fire that broke out near Nathullabad central bus terminal area in Barisal.

The fire broke out around 2:30am Wednesday.

Community police member Palash Chandra Haldar said they informed the fire service officials when they noticed smokes coming out of a shop in the early hours of the day.

“Fire rangers went to the spot and doused the blaze within an hour,” Airport police station Sub-Inspector Abul Kalam said.

However, seven shops were already gutted in the incident before the fire could be doused.

He said: “We were also successful in saving the buses that were parked at the terminal adjacent to the shops.”

Shop owner Sagar Das claimed that properties worth Tk30 lakh were damaged in the fire.

However, Barisal Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md Alauddin said a loss of Tk5 lakh occurred in the incident.

He assumed that fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop.
