A total of 16 professors of different universities have been selected for University Grants Commission (UGC) Award for their recognition of fundamental and innovative research.
UGC have already nominated six teachers for the year 2012 and 10 teachers for 2013 for this award including seven teachers from Dhaka University (DU), reports BSS.
President Abdul Hamid will give the awards to the teachers at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital at 3pm on March 29.
The nominated DU teachers for the year 2012 are- Dr Jamila Ahmed Chowdhury and Assistant Professor Dr Taslima Yasmin from Law department and for the year 2013 are- Prof Dr Ashfak Hossain from History department, Prof Dr M Ziaul Huq Mamun from Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Prof Dr Abul Hasnat of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology department, Prof Dr M Abu Bin Hasan Susan from Chemistry department and Prof Dr Nazma Shaheen from Institute of Nutrition and Food.
Each of the nominated teachers will get 50 thousand taka for their book and 30 thousand for their article including the certificate and crest.
UGC launched this award in 1980 to encourage fundamental research and publications of university teachers.
The award has been given to a total of 116 teachers till 2011 for research and publication.
