A suspected robber has received bullet injuries in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Ratankhil area under Lakshmipur sadar upazila.
The injured, Kabir Hossain, was admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital under police custody.
Chandraganj OC Humayun Kabir said: “A gang of robbers opened fire aiming at the patrol police while preparing for comitting robbery in Ratankhil area around 3am on Monday.”
In retaliation, police opened fire on them, triggering a gunfight that left Kabir shot.
Later, police detained Kabir with a light gun (LG) from the spot while the others managed to flee, he said.
However, Kabir said police stopped him while he was going to Lakshimur around 10:30am on Sunday.
“Police asked my identity and then blindfolded me. Later, they took me to Chandraganj police station and shot me early Sunday at an unknown place.”
Mizan Patowari, convener of sadar upazila unit of Jubo League claimed Kabir as the general secretary of party.
Rejecting the claim, OC Humayun said Kabir was detained during the gunfight and he was accused in several cases.
