Environmental organisations urged the government to ensure integrity in the water management including quick implementation of Bangladesh Water Act 2013.
Besides, they demanded to an end to the pollution of the rivers and water bodies.
The call appeared from a human chain hosted by Bangladesh Water Integrity Network and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) in TSC area yesterday marking the World Water Day.
Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of the TIB, said the government should strengthen the institutions dealing with water resources management initiatives to get better service and the laws concerned was also should be implemented.
“Besides it is needed to include the climate adaptation plans in water management system to ensure the direct involvement of people”, the TIB director opined while addressing the human chain. He demanded punishment for the water polluters across the country.
Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain, pro-vice chancellor (administration) of Dhaka University, spoke the event that: “Water is crucial for life, but it is threatened because of our activities which could bring great danger for our future.”
