Graphic novel series on Bangabandhu released

Update : 17 Mar 2015, 08:13 PM

The first episode of “Mujib,” a graphic novel series on the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was released yesterday, on the occasion of birthday of the father of the nation.

Collaborating with the Centre for Research and Information (CRI), cartoonists Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy and ABM Salauddin Shuvo are working on the graphic novel which illustrates how Bangabandhu got involved in politics, raised his voice demanding the independence of Bangladesh and eventually earned the title Bangabandhu, which means “friend of Bangalis.”

“ We endeavoured to translate into visual art the pulsating story of a young boy who grew up to be the founder of our nation,” Tanmoy said in his Facebook post.

“The series targets children and teenagers who grow up on a steady diet of comics and books. The first episode portrays the childhood and growing up of Bangabandhu. Next episodes will focus on the vision and mission that paved the path towards his great leadership,” said Sabbir Bin Shams, CRI executive director, in a press note.

The graphic novel is first of its kind that will address the country’s youth about the contribution of the father of the nation in such a unique way, he said.

The launching ceremony of the graphic novel was held at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum yesterday afternoon.

Published by State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid and CRI trustee Radwan Mujib Siddiq, the novel series will soon be available nationwide.
