Update : 16 Mar 2015, 08:52 AM

A Dhaka court has taken into cognizance the charge sheet in the case filed over the custodial death of Mahabubur Rahman Sujon, a garment-waste trader.

Dhaka Metropolitan acting session judge KM Imrul Kayes accepted the charge sheet against five people, including Mirpur's former sub-inspector Zahidur Rahman Zahid on Monday afternoon.

The other accused are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar, constables - Asad and Rashidul Haque - and police informer Mithun.

The court also exempted five other accused in the case.

Last year, the accused allegedly picked Sujon up from his house at Hazaribagh on July 13 midnight and tortured him in custody at Mirpur police station.

As Sujon fell sick, the accused took him to a local clinic and later shifted to Suhrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar where the doctors declared him dead on July 13, 2014.
