Dégradé gets Doha backing

Update : 10 Mar 2015, 06:00 PM

The highly-anticipated Dégradé, Films du Tambour’s first feature-length film, was among the 29 international films selected to receive special mentoring by the Doha Film Institute at their inaugral Qumra event.

The film’s producers, Rani Massalha and Marie Legrand, as well as Rashid Abdehamed of Made In Palestine screened 15 minutes of the film at Qumra.

Dégradé, which was written and directed by twin brothers Arab and Tarzan  Abou Nasser, is a dark comedy set in a beauty salon in the Gaza strip, where an assortment of women find themselves stuck after a gun battle breaks out in the streets between Hamas and a gangland family that has stolen a lioness from Gaza’s only zoo. The lion incident is actually based on real events, while the salon and its clientele are fictionalised.

The film, which is in its post-production stage in Paris, is slated to be released at a major film festival this year. Exact dates are yet to be released.
