Speaker leaves for UK

Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has left Dhaka for UK to attend several programmes to mark the 'Commonwealth Day' and 'International Women's Day' in the UK and the USA.

The speaker, also chairperson of the Executive Committee of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), will deliver speech on a programme to mark the 'Commonwealth Day' at Westminster Abbey.

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain will be present, BSS reported.

The speaker will participate in a dialogue on March 13 on 'Women's Political Leadership in Delivering Democracy and Development in Africa' organised by Commonwealth Secretariat and African Union in the USA.

Later, on March 14, the speaker is scheduled to join the 13th meeting of Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group (CGPMG).

She will join several meetings organised by Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and UN Women.

She is expected to return home on March 23.
