A five-years-old minor girl has been killed and her grandmother injured as a waste-laden truck of Chittagong City Corporation hit the rickshaw carrying them at Anandabazar area of Bandar in Chittagong city.
The deceased was identified as Riya Akhtar Jui, daughter of Md Mohiuddin, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahinul Islam of Bandar police station.
The girl used to live with his mother who is readymade garment (RMG) worker, said the SI.
Quoting locals SI Shahinul Islam said a garbage truck of CCC hit a rickshaw carrying the child and her grandmother in front of one Hazi Khairuzzaman’s residence on Saturday while the child going to her teacher’s house, leaving the child dead on the spot and the grandmother injured.
Following the accident the aggrieved locals later caught the driver along with the truck and informed police, the SI said.
Locals alleged that the CCC’s drivers have been driving the garbage trucks recklessly through the narrow road where five to six persons were injured by the trucks earlier.
