At least 18 shops have been gutted as a market of readymade garments in Jessore caught fire early Saturday.
Senior Station Officer Khandakar Sanaullah of Jessore Fire Service said fire originated at the market around 12:45am.
He said six fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flames after two hours of hectic efforts.
The fire service official said the cause and estimated loss from the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
However, acting general secretary of the market Ismail Hossain claimed that the estimated loss was Tk15 crore.
