Update : 02 Mar 2015, 02:51 PM

Jamalpur police have arrested two Jamaat leaders over a war crimes case.

The two arrestees are SM Eusuf Ali, 83, of Jigatola and Advocate Shamsul Haque, 70, of Nayapara of the district.

Jamalpur Sadar police station OC Mujibur Rahman said according to a warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2, police arrested them from their residence around 5pm on Monday.

The two will be handed over to the tribunal soon, he added.

Earlier in the day, ICT 2 issued an arrest warrant against eight Jamaat leaders of Jamalpur, including the two men, for committing horrific crimes against humanity in 1971.

The second tribunal issued the warrant, accepting a plea from prosecutor Tapas Kanti Bal.

The tribunal set March 30 as the deadline for submitting a progress report on the investigation against them.
