Update : 02 Mar 2015, 10:51 AM

The month-long 23rd Chittagong International Trade Fair will kick off in Chittagong city’s Pologround area on Tuesday amid the ongoing political turmoil.

Mahbubul Alam, president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), said this at a press briefing held at CCCI office at Agrabad in Chittagong on Monday.

“Like the previous year, CCCI has been organising the trade fair with an aim to expand local products in the international market,” said Alam.

Md Nurul Selim, chairman of the trade fair organising committee, read out the written speech at the press conference.

In the speech, Selim said commerce minister Tofail Ahmed would inaugurate the fair as chief guest, while State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and MA Latif MP would also be present as the special guests.

A total of 400 business outlets from home and abroad will take part in the fair, which will include 38 pavilions and 239 stalls that will remain open from 10am to 10pm, said Nurul Selim.

Thailand would take part at the fair as a partner nation, while traders from India, Turkey and Iran would also join.

A camp of police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) would be set up inside the fair to fend off any untoward situation, while Close Circuit Cameras (CCC) will be placed in key points, in consideration of the special security issue.

An information booth and a temporary ATM Booth of Standard Bank have been set up for customer transactions.

CCCI vice-president Sayed Jamal Ahmed, director Mahfuzul Haque Shah, and other members of CCCI were present during the press conference.
