Tofail: Sweden keen to invest in ICT sector

Update : 25 Feb 2015, 06:01 PM

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said yesterday Sweden has expressed interest in making large investments in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector of Bangladesh.

Besides this, they are considering investing in other potential sectors such as pharmaceuticals, leather, ship building and furniture, he told journalists after meeting with Swedish envoy Johan Frisell at the Commerce Ministry, reports BSS.

Tofail Ahmed said there is great demand for Bangladeshi readymade garments in the Swedish market.

The present government is encouraging Sweden and other countries to invest in Bangladesh. The government is being fully cooperative as per demands in this regard, he added.

The government has undertaken a plan to increase exports of garments, pharmaceutical and ICT products, leather goods and ships. These products have immense demand in Sweden and in other countries, said Tofail Ahmed.

In reply to a question, Tofail Ahmed said development activities are not being hampered due to the current situation in the country.

Peace-loving people in this nation dislike criminal activities, such as the blockade and strike, and they are united against terrorism, he added.

One can now see shops and businesses staying open, and vehicles plying on the roads, he said, and hoped the situation will become completely normal within a short time. Senior officials of the ministry were also present on the occasion.
