A fire that swept through a slum in the capital's Agargaon area on Wednesday morning has claimed the life of two-year-old Sajib.
After firefighters brought the flame under control, the deceased boy's mother, Moifuli, pulled her son's body out from the ashes of their rented house. He was sleeping inside the room, said Moifuli.
The fire originated at a shanty of the slum located near the Islamic Foundation building around 11:25am, said Nilufar Yesmin, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
She told the Dhaka Tribune that a total of 11 fire fighting units went to the spot immediately after the incident occurred.
“The fire fighters managed to bring the blaze under control at around 12:30pm.”
The extent of the damage could not be known immediately, said the firefighters.
