The International Crimes Tribunal has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest fugitive war criminal Abdul Jabbar with the help of International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
“The tribunal has asked the IGP to arrest Abdul Jabbar, seeking the help of Interpol,” said Prosecutor Jahid Imam, while talking to journalists after the verdict on Jabbar's war crimes case.
Earlier in the day, former Jatiya Party lawmaker engineer Mohammad Abdul Jabbar was sentenced to imprisonment unto death for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal 1, led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, pronounced the verdict, considering the fugitive war criminal's age.
Jabbar, now 85, has been a fugitive since 2009.
The former chairman of the local unit of the Peace Committee during the 1971 Liberation War had played a key role in the formation of the razakar force and led collaborators in committing crimes in Mathbaria.
