The government has a plan to construct around Dhaka a modern, new airport of international standards, to be named "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib International Airport."
Replying to a question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Begum Salma Islam, the minister informed the House on Monday, reports BSS.
The airport will be built to make Bangladesh a hub between the East and West in the movement of aircraft, said Menon.
He said the TPP (technical project profile) for conducting a detailed feasibility study of the project, and fixing the project area as per the decision of an ADP meeting held on December 23, has been framed.
The Civil Aviation Authority would implement the project through its own funding, he said, adding that consultants would be appointed after the approval of the TPP.
Menon said the timeframe to implement the project would be fixed later, after endorsement of the main project.
The place for the project would be finalised in light of the report for the feasibility study by the consultant, he added.
