Sylhet landslide kills four

Four people have been killed in a mudslide at Bholaganj stone quarry in Companyganj upazila of the district on Sunday night.

The deceased are Moin, 40, son of Eatim Ali, Dana Mia, 42, son of Anwar Hossain, Delwar, 24, son of Shahjalal, and Emdadul Haque Selim, 42, son of Siddique Ali, and they hailed from Kathalbari village of West Islampur union in the upazila.

Witnesses said a chunk of mud collapsed on them around 8:30pm, while the labourers were digging up stones at the quarry, leaving them dead on the spot.

The victims could not be rescued immediately after the landslide, as most of the workers had left the stone quarry after evening, they added.

Companyganj police station OC Delowar Hossain said, on being informed, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Akram Hossain went to the spot around 1am and recovered the bodies.
