The highest cable fee has been fixed at Tk300 by the government.
According to a notice issued on February 13, monthly cable TV fees will range from Tk150 to Tk300, depending on the package.
A Tk150 package will get 30 channels, with at least 10 paid channels. The feed operator will have to pay Tk50 for each of these packages.
Their profits go up with the packages. A Tk200 package gets 40 channels, with at least 15 paid channels, for which the feed operator will pay Tk60.
The highest package of Tk300 gets 60 channels, with at least 25 paid channels, for which the feed operators will pay Tk100 for each subscriber.
The notice, signed by Md Akhteruzzaman Talukder, a senior assistant secretary of the Information Ministry, comes in the wake of a High Court rule of 2009.
For a connection of 50 channels with at least 20 paid channels, subscribers will pay Tk250 and the feed operator Tk80 per month.
