Four passengers have sustained burn injuries and four others have been injured when pro-hartal activists hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Pologround in Chittagong city.
Suvash Som, 65, Saber Ahmed, 25, Nur Mohammed, 30, and Md Nasir, 40, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, said Nayek Hamidur Rahman of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost.
Suvash, son of Birendro Som, was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at around 1:30pm, as his condition was critical, police said.
Suvash is the manager of “Magura Banijjaloy,” a kitchen wholesale shop in the city’s Riajuddin market.
The four injured men, Rupom Debnath, 25, Md Arif, 30, Md Sohel, 25, and Md Muzammel Haque, 26, received preliminary treatment, said Hamidur Rahman.
Quoting the injured, Nayek Hamid said miscreants had hurled the petrol bomb at a bus, coming from Tigerpass to New Market, at around 12am on Thursday.
When hit by the bomb, the bus struck a road island as the driver lost control over the steering wheel, leaving the eight people injured, and four burnt, added Nayek Hamid.
Dr Mrinal Kanti Das, Head of CMCH’s Burn and Plastic Surgery departmen,t told Dhaka Tribune: “Suvash sustained 30% burn injuries. He was being treated in the Incentive Care Unit (ICU) of the CMCH.”
“We referred him to DMCH for better treatment,” he added.
The three other injured men, in serious conditions, were being treated at CMCH, added Dr Mrinal.
A case has been filed in this connection, accusing 51 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat.
