Spring has arrived in all its glory. Bangladeshis throughout the nation have welcomed the new season with great joy and love. Red and yellow are the symbolic colours of Pohela Falgun. Many girls were dressed in yellow or orange-coloured saris and wore floral ornaments. The boys were seen in panjabis of many shades.
In the capital, young men and women dressed up in bright colours to join a procession at 7am at the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukola’s) Bokultola at Dhaka University (DU).
Citizens of different areas in Shahbagh, Charukola, TSC, to the book fair at Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Uddyan celebrated all day the coming of Falgun, according to the Bengali calendar.
The Bakultola of Charukala (Facul) at DU was the heart of the festival. On the DU campus, thousands gathered in the morning to enjoy the song and dance programmes held in different places throughout the site. After the rally, the second part of the programme took place in the afternoon.
Apart from that, celebrations were scheduled to take place in Uttara Sector 3’s Unmukta Mancha, Old Dhaka’s Bahadur Shah Park and Lakhsmi Bazar, and Dhanmondi’s Rabindra Sorobor.
After the dryness of winter, new leaves are coming out again, and nature has adorned the branches with new blossoms of shimul, polash, marigolds, and the Krishnachura.
Especially, the ongoing month-long Ekushay Book Fair has become the best place to spend time with friends, family, and loved ones.

Meanwhile, in Chittagong, spring was celebrated yesterday in the city with bright colours, joy, and excitement.
After a long spell of the blockade and hartal, Chittagong denizens came outdoors to spend the first day of the “season of flowers,” while the city took on a festive look.
To welcome the new season, different socio-cultural organisations held day-long programmes. The girls wore saris in the Falgun colours and floral ornaments, while the boys wore colourful panjabis.
Proma, a recitation ogranisation in the port city, and private telecom company Robi jointly organised the “Bosonto Utsab” at the Fine Art Institute of Chittagong University in the city’s Mehedibag area. The programme featured recitations, indigenous dances, instrumental music, songs, and an art competition.
Bodhon Abritti Parishad, another recitation organisation, held a lively programme, “Nibir Ontor Tor Bosonto Elo Prane,” at DC Hill, which also featured a cultural programme.
Famous singers Samina Chowdhury and Sandipan performed at the Fine Arts Institute, and local artists performed before the audience at DC Hills.
