Divers have recovered the body of an Islamic University student from River Nabaganga in Jhenaidah town.
The deceased is Mostafa Zaman Rana, 25, son of Rafiquddin Shah hailed from Chandipur village of Sailkaupa upazila in the district.
Sub-inspector Iqbal Hossain of Jhenaidah Sadar police station said divers of the fire service and civil defense department from Khulna had recovered the body from the river around 3pm on Wednesday.
Rana drowned in the river while returning from his brother-in-law's house at Chaklapara area in the town around 9:30pm on Tuesday night, he added.
Scared Rana jumped into the river as locals started shout suspecting him as thief, the SI said.
Locals sources said Rana’s relatives failed to trace him after hour-long frantic search in the river and later called on the police.
