Two policemen have sustained injuries in a crude bomb explosion in the district's Gouripur early Wednesday.
Gouripur police station OC Mohammad Ali said: “We had information that some arsonists were taking preparation to conduct arson on the highway. Acting on it, a team of police raided Mamun Nagar area of Gouripur in order to detain them.”
“Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the blockade supporters hurled crude bombs on the police around 4am, leaving SI Masud Jamali and police member Bacchu Mia.”
The OC further said: “In retaliation, the police opened fire, leaving one Sohag injured.”
The injured policemen and the suspected blockade supporter have been admitted in the hospital.
On the other development, some miscreants set fire at the land office on Tuesday night.
But, the locals managed to put it out immediately. No report of damage and injury has been filed.
