Ten children including five newborns have died in 24 hours at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Twenty-two other people also died at the hospital from various diseases and road accidents in this 24 hours.
Relatives of the deceased children alleged that the babies died due to wrong treatment and doctors' negligence.
However, Deputy Director of the hospital Dr Abdus Salam said the children died because of breathing problem, complexities during delivery and pneumonia since 7am on Monday.
"Three to four children die every day in the hospital due to different post-delivery complexities. But this time the number of deaths is unusual," he said.
He, however, said there was nothing to be panicked over the matter.
The hospital authorities also formed a three-member probe committee to investigate whether there was any negligence for the deaths of 10 children.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days.
