Update : 04 Feb 2015, 08:19 PM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was sued yesterday as an abettor in two cases filed over the arson attack in Chouddogram of Comilla that left seven people dead.

According to the cases, the arson attack was carried out following an order of the BNP chairperson.

With these, the former premier has been implicated in six cases filed in Dhaka and Comilla over arson attacks and violence during the indefinite blockade and hartal programmes, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance since January 6.

Sub-Inspector Nuruzzaman Hawlader of Chouddogram police filed the two cases – one for murder and the other for use of explosives – against Khaleda and 75 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists.

Chouddogram OC Uttam Kumar Chakrabarty said they had already arrested 10 of accused.

Other key accused in the cases are BNP Standing Committee member barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, and joint secretaries general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and Salauddin Ahmed; Jamaat-e-Islami Foreign Affairs Secretary Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, also a former MP; Jubo Dal central leader Qamrul Huda; and Chouddogram upazila Jamaat President Shahabuddin and General Secretary Shah Md Mizanur Rahman.

At least seven people were burnt alive while 30 others injured early Tuesday when miscreants hurled Molotov cocktails at a Dhaka-bound bus full of sleeping passengers on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chouddogram.

Sixteen of the injured were admitted to DMCH with six having critical burn injuries.
