Google Street View, a free map-based service from Google that provides panoramic views of streets and sites, will be officially launched tomorrow, a senior official of ICT division said.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Google Map feature in a ceremony tomorrow at the ICT division. However, a good portion of Dhaka and Chittagong was already viewable on the street view service from January 22.
The official also informed that Sajeeb Wazed Joy will handover tablet PC to government officials at the programme.
When contacted regarding the ceremony, Hasan Shahed, chief executive manager of Mapping Bangladesh, refused to make any comments on the programme.
The Google Street View which allows anyone to roam different streets and sites virtually is widely popular among travellers and technology enthusiasts worldwide.
On January 22, Hasan Shahed said more locations of the capital and the port city are going to be added to the service soon. “So far Dhaka city, Chittagong city and Dhaka-Chittagong highway have been included and we plan to cover the divisions and then the districts,” Hasan had said then.
Hasan and the band of volunteers from Mapping Bangladesh worked relentlessly with Google to bring the best possible views for the Google Street View Service.
Mapping Bangladesh said they were always keen to expand the locations covered by Street View and are particularly excited about helping bring more of Bangladesh onto Google Maps.
