A person has been killed and some 50 including seven policemen have been injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Bajitpur upazila in Kishoreganj.
The deceased is Pinu Miah, 48, son of Chhobir Uddin, of Koilag village of the upazila.
The local administration declared section 144 in the area after the incident.
Officer-in-Charge of Bajitpur police station Subrata Saha endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.
Locals said a person of the Koilag village locked into altercation with an auto-rickshaw driver of Poilanpur village.
Following the altercation, two groups of villagers locked into clashes with lethal weapons around 2:30pm on Tuesday.
Being informed police rushed to the spot immediately and fired 50 rounds of blank shot to control the situation, they added.
Seven policemen including Mostafizur Rahman, OC (Investigation) of the police station along with some 43 others injured in the clash.
The injured were rushed to the local health complex while a bullet injured was admitted to Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital.
Later, OC Mostafizur was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, OC Subrata said.
He said section 144 had been imposed in Koilag, Poilanpur , Bashmahal and its adjacent areas to control the situation.
Additional police had already been deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation, the official added.
