Two people were killed as a salt-laden truck plunged into a roadside canal on Barisal-Dhaka highway.
Truck driver Nur Hosain Shikdar, 3, and helper Zafar Rari, 26, died on the spot in the accident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
Gournadi OC Sajjad Hosain said the bodies have been sent to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Barisal Superintendent of Police AKM Ehsan Ullah said the accident took place as the truck fell into the canal after its driver lost control over the steering around 1am on Tuesday.
Gournadi Fire Service Station Officer Ainul Islam said a unit from the fire service went to the spot and rescued the vehicle.
However, witnesses claimed that the accident occurred after the vehicle came under an arson by the pro-blockade supporters.
