Some 24,000 chickens have been killed after its carrier pickup fell to roadside ditch at Mahilara area on Dhaka-Barisal highway.
Sub Inspector Saiful Islam of Gournadi highway police station, said a pickup ( Sirajganj-Da-11-0240) carrying 23,400 chickens from Gazipur Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Farm was going to Patuakhali for supplying chicken.
When the pickup reached in the area, its driver lost control over the steering and it fell to roadside ditch on Monday morning.
Highway police with the help of local people recovered the pickup, but carried chickens were killed due to drowning in the ditch, said the police officer.
Sirajul Islam, 31, pickup driver, sustained minor injury and was given first-aid, police sources said.
