The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has decided to apply maximum strength to ensure security at the SSC examination venues in the capital.
“Initiatives have already been taken to ensure security for the examinees on their way to and from the examination centres. A four-tier security system will be put in place alongside regular arrangements. There will also be a cross-patrolling system,” DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah said yesterday.
He gave the details of the security measures while attending an anti-terrorism leaflets distribution programme at Motijheel in the capital yesterday morning.
The four-tier security system will be jointly coordinated by RAB, BGB and Ansar. Intelligence officials in plain clothes will be deployed at every exam centre, he said.
There will be round-the-clock patrolling by two groups reinforcing one another, the DMP boss said. He urged people to provide as much information as possible to help improve surveillance.
The commissioner said if police are informed, they would escort guardians and students to the examination centres.
“On the basis of intelligence reports, we have already traced arsonists and their financiers. Our drive against them is underway and we have already arrested a number of miscreants.”
Claiming to have made significant progress in reducing violence with only three vehicles torched and vandalised in a week, the Dhaka police chief hoped that they would be able to stop attacks on vehicles soon.
“We have declared reward for helping law enforcers with information to arrest miscreants and those behind the sabotages. The identity of informers will not be disclosed,” he assured.
