Police have allegedly assaulted the DU correspondent of the English daily New Age around 5:30pm on Sunday.
The injured correspondent Nazmul Huda Suman said he was on his way back to the university from the office.
When he reached Bijoynagar area, he saw policemen riding on a pillion which was recently banned by the police authorities in the wake of recent spate of arson and crude bomb attacks.
He then tried to get a photo of them in his mobile phone, which one of the policemen noticed.
Immediately after that some 20-30 policemen led by SI Mehedi Hasan Suman of Ramna police swooped on him, despite he gave them his identity.
The correspondent was beaten mercilessly by the baton on the spot. Then he was taken in the police car, where he was beaten again. And he was beaten once again in Ramna police station.
Later, his friends and colleagues rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors suggested him for MRI and ECG tests as his head was hurt by the assault.
