At least four betel leaf traders have been killed and four others injured when a truck ran a betel leaf-laden tempo over on Jhenaidah-Kushtia Highway in the district on Friday morning.
The deceased are-- Safiuddin, 35, Mazibar Rahman, 37, Reazul Islam, 40, of Kanapukuria village under Sailkupa upazila and Aminul Islam Amal, 35, of Charpara village under Harinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah.
The injured were rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. Of the injured, the conditions of two injured were stated to be critical.
Sailkupa Fire Service and Civil Defense Office Station Officer Abdur Rauf Mollah said: “A speedy-driven truck ran a Jhenaidah-bound betel leaf-laden tempo over near Abashan Prokalpa area around 6:30am, leaving four traders dead on the spot and four others injured.”
Sailkupa police station Officer-in-Charge MA Hashem Khan told the Dhaka Tribune that the driver and the helper of the killer truck managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident.
“But, the police is trying to capture them.”
