Nahid: Withdraw blockade before SSC exam

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has called upon the BNP-led 20-party alliance to withdraw the ongoing nationwide blockade before Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations for the sake of future of the children.

He made the call while talking to journalists after a meeting on SSC examination preparation at the secretariat on Thursday.

Addressing BNP, Nahid said: “Please let our children take the exams safely."

“The SSC candidates are not workers of any political parties. They are future of the nation.”

Nahid came up with the urge ahead of the SSC and its equivalent examinations that are scheduled to begin on February 2.

On Wednesday, Nahid also vowed to hold the SSC and its equivalent examinations on scheduled time.

Around 14, 79,266 examinees from 27,808 educational institutions across the country are expected to sit for the exams.

Moreover, a total of 297 overseas students will also sit for the exams in eight overseas centres.

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has been observing countrywide roads and waterways blockade for indefinite period since January 5.

Blockade-related violence has killed at least 35 people over the last few weeks.

Hundreds of vehicles, including those belonging to law-enforcers, were burnt and attacked.

The BNP chairperson called the non-stop blockade on January 5 after she was barred from coming out of her Gulshan office in Dhaka.
