A truck driver and his associate have sustained burn injuries in Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Tuesday.
The injured are truck driver Azizur Rahman, 35, son of Mubarak Alam of Jessore and helper Md Shameem, 21, son of Rezaul Karim.
Sub-Inspector of CMCH police outpost Zahirul Islam said: “Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a running truck on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in the area around 6:30am on Tuesday.”
They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital’s Burnt and Plastic Surgery Unit, he added.
The on duty doctor of the Burn Unit Dr Rezina Islam said Aziz suffered 18% burn injuries in his face and hands.
The injured driver Aziz said a three to four members of masked miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on their onion-laden truck.
“I and Shameem jumped off from the running truck after the arson attack to save ourselves while the truck was going to plunge into roadside ditch,” said Aziz.
However, Officer-in-Charge of Sitakunda police station Iftekhar Hossain said we could not confirm about the arson attack as we found the truck plunged into a roadside ditch.
“We have sent police officials to the hospital to find out what exactly happened there,” said the OC.
