The police have detained 24 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) unit in Habiganj in separate drives during the countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
The law enforcers conducted the drives in the district on Monday evening, said Assistant Police Super Masudur Rahman Monir.
He said: “The detainees include JCD Joint Convener Emdadul Haque Imran and Rubel Ahmed, convener of Brindabon College unit of JDC. They were detained around 10pm for carrying out arson attack and violence in Habiganj town.”
Police also recovered some petrol bombs from the possessions of the detainees, he said.
Earlier, miscreants vandalised several CNG-run auto rickshaw and hurled petrol bombs in the CNG Station of the town on Monday evening.
