The Parliament has passed an amended form of the Metro Rail Bill, 2015 on Monday to help curb traffic jam in the capital with providing quick and modern transport service to the commuters.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader placed the bill in the House aimed at construction of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), reports BSS.
The minister said "The construction of the first ever Metro Rail requires a proper law for construction, operation, maintenance, control and concerned issues of the MRT."
It has special provisions for land acquisition, construction of metro rail, compulsory license for metro rail operation, a committee to fix fare, inspection and monitoring system, insurance coverage of metro rail and passengers, quality, punishment for crimes and other concerned issues.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Ekabbor Hossain placed the report of the bill in the House on January 20.
Earlier on November 30, 2014, Obaidul Quader introduced the bill with provisions for construction, operation, maintenance, control and concerned issues.
Later the bill was sent to the Concerned JS standing committee for scrutiny.
