The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has declared bounty up to Tk1 lakh for helping apprehend arsonists. This comes in the wake of similar announcements from the hybrid crime busters, RAB and cabinet members.
DMP Commissioner Azaduzzman Miah told journalists at the DMP media center on Monday afternoon that Tk1 lakh would be given for helping the law enforcers arrest arsonists on the spot of occurence.
He also announced two other rewards - Tk50,000 for assisting the capture of miscreants hurling petrol bombs and crude bombs and Tk10,000 for providing information regarding bomb making.
Azaduzzman said: “We have strengthened our operation against the arsonists. We have already declared Tk1 lakh bounty on bombers’ head as well.”
“Killing innocent people in the name of movement cannot be a way to do politics. Rather it is a criminal offense,” he said.
“We have prepared leaflets with mobile phone numbers of police officers to be contacted for information. The leaflets will be distributed to the rural areas from Monday.”
He urged all the people to unite against arsonists and help law enforcers protect the country.
Earlier on January 23, the government announced Tk1 lakh bounty for handing in arsonists.
A day after the declaration, RAB also announced rewards for the capture of bombers or information leading to their arrest on January 24.
The BNP-led opposition alliance has been observing nationwide blockade of roads and waterways since January 5.
The current blockade has been marked by violence and clashes between the police and protesters, leaving a number of people killed, maimed and injured.
More than 30 people have been killed since the blockade began.
In the wake of a rising incidence of arson, the government has announced rewards for catching those responsible.
