Seven suspected robbers have been beaten to death by a mob during the act at Bhatapara village under the sadar upazila early Monday.
Identities of the deceased could not be ascertained.
Panchdona union parishad Chairman Mizanur Rahman confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the death.
He said: “A gang of 24 robbers swooped into the house of one Ali Akbar, a local transport businessman, in Takshal area around 1:30am. Hearing Akbar’s scream locals went to the spot and started chasing the robbers.”
Meanwhile, the incident was also announced through the megaphone of the nearby mosque. They managed to capture eight of the robbers and beat them up, leaving seven dead on the spot. The other was handed over to the police.
Narshingdi Sadar OC Abul Kashem said: “Being informed, the police recovered the bodies and sent them to Sadar hospital for autopsy. The injured was admitted to the hospital.”
Criminal activities have increased in the area, added the UP chairman.
