Saraswati Puja, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindus community, has been celebrated on the Dhaka University campus with traditional gaiety and religious fervor.
This year, Saraswati Puja was celebrated in Jagannath Hall, Bangladesh Kuwait Moitri Hall, Rokeya Hall, Shamsun Nahar Hall and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University.
A total of 60 Mandops were created to decorate the goddess in a unique way at the main celebration point-- Jagannath Hall of the university.
People of all ages came to the Puja venue with spouses or children to witness the religious festival from the early morning.
A large idol of Saraswati was placed in the middle of the pond of Jagannath Hall. The worship started at around 8:45am while ‘Anjali Prodan’ held at around 10am and ‘Aroti’ programme at around 6pm.
The Goddess Saraswati was seen in many styles on DU campus.
She was shown holding a book, wearing garlands of white pearls, holding pot of sacred water, holding a Bina with lotus flower and a white swan next to her feet.
Additional security measures were taken around the campus to hold the celebration peacefully.
As part of the celebration, a cultural programme will be held on Monday.
The Puja is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh, as Goddess Saraswati was born on this day. The day is called ‘Vasant Panchami’.
As Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom and knowledge, Hindu devotees, especially students, celebrated the puja in different educational institutions and temples.
