Trade fair extended by 10 days

Update : 25 Jan 2015, 06:30 AM

The government has extended the Dhaka International Trade Fair 2015 by 10 days following the demands of participating businessmen.

Shubhashish Bose, vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the decision.

The participating businessmen in the trade fair have been demanding the extension as they saw small crowds in the fair due to political unrest.

The traditionally month-long fair organised by the Export Promotion Bureau and the Ministry of Commerce began on January 1 amid the ongoing nationwide general strike.

This time, the fair drew lower turnout because of the political unrest.

The BNP-led 20-party has been observing countrywide roads and waterways blockade for indefinite period since January 5.

Blockade-related violence has killed at least 35 people over the last couple of weeks.

Hundreds of vehicles, including those belonging to law-enforcers, were burnt and attacked.
