Update : 24 Jan 2015, 08:37 AM

Two people have received burns after miscreants set a CNG-run auto-rickshaw afire in the district's Chandra union early Saturday.

The injured are auto-rickshaw driver Anwar, 28, and its owner Khalil Mollah, 60.

Locals said some unidentified miscreants intercepted Anwar and Khalil around 2am, while they were crossing a road on their way back home.

Later, the criminals set the auto-rickshaw afire after the victims got down from it.

Anwar and Khalil received burns while trying to stop the arsonists.

Hearing the cry of the victims, locals rushed in and took them to Chandpur General Hospital.

Duty doctor Pradip Kumar Datta said: “Anwar has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around Saturday noon as his condition deteriorated.”

Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Model police station Abdul Kayum said the police was trying to identify the miscreants.

“We will file a case in this connection and arrest the criminals as soon as possible.”

Hundreds of vehicles, including those belonging to law-enforcers, were burnt and attacked during the ongoing non-stop blockade.

Blockade-related violence has killed at least 35 people over the last couple of weeks.
