RAB: Tk1 lakh bounty for aids in arresting arsonists

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has announced Tk1 lakh reward for helping in the arrest of miscreants who are creating anarchy on the streets, making arson attacks and blasting bombs in the name of blockade.

RAB chief Benazir Ahmed made the announcement at a press conference in the capital on Saturday,  three day after the official bounty announcement made by Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.

Nasim: Action against Khaleda if necessary

Health Minister Mohammed Nasim has said the government would take legal action against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia as the main accused for ordering the killing of people in the name of blockade.

He said: “The killing of innocent people, especially women, children and labourers, should be stopped immediately.”

Garment factory catches fire in Gazipur

A fire has broken out at a garment factory in Konabari area of Gazipur Industrial belt on Saturday morning.

Factory Security Supervisor Swapan Bishwas said the fire broke out on the ground floor of Kader Synthetic and Compact Spinning Mill around 7:15am and soon engulfed the entire building.

Saudi king buried in unmarked grave

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, one of the richest men in the history of the world, was carried in a simple white shroud to an unmarked grave on Friday in a Riyadh cemetery where many of his commoner subjects rest, in keeping with ascetic traditions.

The Saudi state school of Wahhabi Sunni Islam holds ostentatious displays of grief or mourning to be sinful, akin to idolatry.

20-party calls hartal in Barisal for Sunday

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called a dawn-to-dusk general strike in the district for Sunday.

City unit BNP Joint Secretary Ziauddin Shikdar issued a press release on Saturday, declaring the shut down.

President leaves to join Saudi King's funeral

President Abdul Hamid has left for Saudi Arabia to attend the funeral of Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

"A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the President and his entourage will leave the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10.30 am," President's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.

State mourns Saudi king's death

Bangladesh is observing countrywide mourning with the national flag half-hoisted  at the demise of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud.

"The national flag will fly at half-mast at all government and private buildings including government, semi-government and autonomous offices, educational institutions and Bangladesh missions abroad during the state mourning," said a government official handout issued on Friday, reports BSS.

Magistrate hurt in Sunamganj road accident

An executive magistrate has been injured after his private car carrying fell into a roadside ditch on Sunamganj-Sylhet highway in the district's Nilpur Bazar area.

Quoting the locals, Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Rafiqul Islam said: “The car fell into a ditch as the driver lost his control over the steering early Saturday, leaving Executive Magistrate Nizam Uddin critically injured.”
