SOPHIE TURNER to play Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse

Update : 23 Jan 2015, 08:04 PM

Navigating the political snakepits of Westeros requires a certain amount of metaphorical mind reading, but now actress Sophie Turner is to play it for real: as telepath Jean Grey in “X-Men: Apocalypse.”

Turner, who has played Sansa Stark since “Game of Thrones” started in 2011, will play Jean Grey, a founding member of the X-Men: a peacekeeping group of mutant troubleshooters based out of a school for “gifted children” with super powers run by Professor Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy). Famke Janssen played Jean Grey until “X-Men: First Class” rebooted the franchise in 2011.

Turner will be joined by Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Monroe, a weather-controlling mutant codenamed Storm previously played by Halle Berry, while Tye Sheridan will play Grey’s laser-sighted love interest Scott Summers, alias Cyclops, previously played by James Marsden.

Director Bryan Singer, who has been involved in the X-Men franchise since directing the first X-Men film in 2000, announced the news on Twitter on January 23.
