Ex-JCD leader killed in 'gunfight'

A former Chhatra Dal leader has been killed in a "gunfight" with the members of Rapid Action Battalion in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla.

The deceased is Soleman Uddin Jishan, former Chhatra Dal leader of Lakshmipur unit and the chief of pirate group 'Jishan Bahini'.

Lakshmipur BNP Organising Secretary Advocate Hasibur Rahman Hasib confirmed Jishan's identity as the library affairs secretary of the party's student wing.

RAB Director (Media) Mufti Mahmud said: “A team of the elite force approached Jishan's motorcycle in a check post in Daudkandi early on Friday.”

“The motorcyclists did not stop and opened fire at the RAB officials,” he said.

In retaliation, the RAB officers fired back that triggered a “gunfight.”

Later, Jishan's body was recovered from the spot.

Lakshmipur Police Super Shah Mizan Shafiur said Jishan was an accused in 11 cases including murder.
