5 Shibir men placed on remand

Police have been granted five days to interrogate five leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, including Banani unit President Mustafizur Rahman, in an explosive substances case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Asaduzzman Nur passed the order in response to a 10-day remand petition yesterday.

Sub-Inspector Md Sharifuzzman sought the remand, placing the accused before the court. The four others remanded are Jaynal Abedin, third year law student at Primeasia University, Arifuzzaman, second year architecture student of Polytechnic Institute, Khalid Saifullah, and Atiar Rahman, fourth year student of Government Titumir College. 

On Wednesday, Banani police arrested them in possession of 130 crude bombs, 1kg gunpowder, two litres of petrol, 5kg stone chips and 3kg multi-pointed nails used for stopping vehicles.
